Fiona reviews Hex, in Salem, MA

Hex, a shop in Salem, MassachusettsHex is an amazing rich store filled with 'Old World Witchery' and more than a little flavor of New Orleans.

According to Hex's MySpace site, "Hex honors the old ways of Witchcraft, magic, and Hoodoo with ritual tools, jewelry, incense, candles, oils, statues, charms, roots, and herbs."

The store is located almost directly across from the statue of Samantha (from Bewitched) in Salem, Massachusetts. The street address is 246 Essex Street, Salem. [Google Maps link]

My visit to Hex in August 2008 surprised me. I was there to co-host a radio show broadcasting from Hex, and left with a shopping bag full of unique and wonderful treats. I'm enjoying every one of them!

As soon as you enter Hex, you'll know you're in a different kind of store. In Salem, that's saying a lot.

From the eerie and colorful decor to the only-at-Hex products, there's something for everyone... from tourists and curiosity seekers, to lifelong Witches and Hoodoo practitioners.

I highly recommend the shop's Hex brand fragrances. Choose yours according to your wishes, and cast an aromatic spell on everyone around you. (My husband especially liked the lust fragrance, and I think everyone loves the one that smells like freshly baked cookies.)

Hex's own incenses are also powerful and different. Like their fragrances, Hex proprietors (and Salem Witches) Christian Day and Leanne Marrama have created unique incenses with powers to meet any need.

I've barely scratched the surface with this review. If you're in or near Salem, be sure to visit Hex. Allow at least half an hour to browse. You'll be very pleased with what you find there.

It's the next best thing to visiting New Orleans' French Quarter.
